As the title says, Neil Gaiman asks Susanna Clarke question about her 2006 short story collection, Ladies of Grace Adieu, during an Observer Blackwells talk at the Bloomsbury theatre. This was good for getting me in a writerly state of mind, so I wanted to archive the link. You can stream or download. Here’s Clarke’s Wikipedia entry.

I Can Feel It In The Air Tonight
September 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Through some convoluted series of link-following, I came across this video of the group Naturally 7 performing Phil Collins’s “Feel It (In The Air Tonight)” with beatboxing and a cappella on the Paris subway. Then I found their official music video of the song, still a cappella, but very produced – apparently it’s playing all over MTV Europe, where they still play music videos.
Here’s a link to the original Phil Collins music video, and one to the version in the Michael Mann/Jamie Foxx/Colin Farrell Miami Vice remake. And Lil’ Kim did something remotely related.
Obviously, this song is a total guilty pleasure of mine.

Airplane! Zero Hour! I’m speechless…

I innocently check out WFMU’s Beware of the Blog, and find out a staple of my childhood, Airplane!, was what it was (funny, at least for me as a kid) somewhat because it’s a remake of a 1957 disaster movie, Zero Hour!. Indeed, some of the funniest bits are comprised of faithfully reproducing 50’s movie histrionics, including Leslie Neilsen’s speech patterns. Go read about it, and watch a 10 minute clip editing together the most relevant bits of Zero Hour!, here…this is like finding out the quaint lady who used to visit your parents was really weird uncle Ernie.
Here’s the link again, separated from my babbling: http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/09/out-of-context-.html

I’ve spent the last hour and a half deleting and cleaning up Categories and adding Tags, now that WordPress has joined the blog-standard and added Tags. Someone somewhere cares, I’m sure.

More poetry

It’s just flowing out of me, these days. Let’s see here:
–
i sit all day in this apartment we used to share
shitting, hurting myself
wondering when my
goddamn boxes will finally fill
the side of the closet that was yours
–
so i ran into
or rather, noticed across the street
the same old man yelling at the same tree.
he has his fans, the old man
clothes falling off him
he attracts them like flies
things too well put together
ready to fall apart out of their tight little boxes
everyone feels the pull to comment; they all want to own him in some way
i want to own him in some way, his wrinkles
–
neither of these poems have anything directly to do with anything happening in my life right now; or maybe they have *everything* to do
